After a time has been set, we will announce the bracket group you’ll be placed in.

Brackets are pre set but won’t be announced till after qualifying

If at any time during the race the car does a faster lap by .5 sec than it did during qualifying then you lose a whole lap! Therefore be forewarned….. a .6 second a lap faster lap time then qualifying may cost you 2+ minutes lost time.

Pit Rules

When a car enters the hot pits, a pit lane speed of 50km/h is in effect.

The car must proceed to stop on the concrete at their assigned pit.

The car must remain stationary and engine off for time as provided in your bracket.

Driver changes shall or can occur at this time. REFUELLING IS ALLOWED.

Each team MUST use a drip pan while fuelling. (Amazon: Flotool 11430 25” x 36” Large drip Tray)

Fueling can only be done while the engine is “OFF”

Fueling must be actively supervised by the teammate with the fire extinguisher

Spilling fuel in the hot pit is NOT ALLOWED and will incur a 2 lap penalty. If spilling fuel during last stop then 2 laps will be deducted from your total. Spilled fuel is indicated by leaving a spot on the concrete.

Please note that the Petro Can fuel tank at the track may be empty as this is not refilled before winter. Suggest you bring your own fuel.

Hot pits: Everyone in the pits must wear long pants, closed toe shoes.

Fueling teammate must wear fireproof clothing

Pit Stop Timing: Pit stops should be pre announced to the ORRA27 official by the crew chief.

ORRA27 officials may appoint another person to do the actual pit stop timing.

Time will start as the car comes to a complete stop within its pit stall.

Cars may not proceed at pit out unless instructed to do so by the Pit Lane Marshal.

You will receive a “pit stop sticker” when you make a proper pitstop. It is your team’s responsibility to make sure you collected your sticker and have it stuck in the proper place before leaving the pits.

Pit entry or exit will be closed for 10 minutes after the start and 10 minutes before the end of the race

Race Procedures:

There will be one pace lap (full track) behind the pace car.

The race time starts as the lead car crosses the starting line after the drop of the green flag and ends after 240 minutes.

The race will end when the leader crosses the finish line after 240 minutes have expired.

In the event of an incident, the pace car may be used with double yellow flags displayed at all stations around the course.

No passing is permitted while yellow flags are displayed and no driver may pass the pace car unless waived by.

Cars must cross the finish line and take the checkered flag under own power for official finishing position or will be scored as DNF.

Double Yellow flag situation – pits will be closed, pacecar will go out and attempt to pick up the leader and slow down the field. It is very unlikely that the pacecar will wave you by. ALL cars stay behind pacecar while rescue team deals with ongoing issue. You may “gain” or “lose” time/position …. That’s life.

Red flag situation – As per usual. Red flag means ALL cars come directly to HOT PIT and line up in designated area. A red flag “hot pit” stop will be counted as one of your mandatory pit stops. No work can be performed and no driver change can be done.

Note: red flag situation will deduct one mandatory pit stop.

Restart will be in order of previous lap. Last lap before Red was shown.

Black Flag: If you are Black Flagged, you must report to the Pit Lane Marshal on pit lane for consultation.

Black Flag stops will not count as a mandatory pit stop. You must return to the circuit after consultation and do at least one lap before making one of your mandatory pit stops.

Cars receiving a Mechanical Black Flag (meatball) must stop at their assigned pit box for necessary repairs. This stop may count as one of your mandatory timed pit stops.

Cars that break down on course and are NOT in a safety zone will cause a full course yellow flag and pace car situation.

The rescue team will be dispatched and the car will be towed to the nearest safety zone.

At this point the driver is responsible for fixing the car to return to the pits. No outside body can touch the car.

Mechanics can provide tools or advice but can NOT touch the car.

If a car is deemed unfixable by the driver then the car will stay in that safety zone till the end of the race. Driver is able to get a ride back to the pits only while the rescue team is on its call out. No drivers will be picked up after “giving up”.

Running out of fuel is considered a mechanical break down.

If the driver fixes the car and then breaks down a second time then the car will be a DNF. No fixing twice in same lap.

Cars WILL NOT be towed back to the pits. There is an exception to this rule which will be discussed at the drivers meeting

Transponders

Transponders: A working transponder is mandatory to be eligible to compete.

There are NO transponders available for rent at the track.

If your transponder quits during the race you may get the meatball flag. However, you won’t be scored as this will NOT be a hand scored or manual scoring race.

 REMEMBER: NO CONTACT RACING!!!!

Eligible drivers:

Non-Members competing in the race must be a guest of a Member and use a Members’ guest pass (3 Day A27 restriction waived) or, be in good standing on the Prospective Members waitlist.

Area 27 members who have frequented the track in 2023 or 2024 (no racing needed)

Any 2023 or 2024 Academy 27 2.5 day graduate that has been to the Area 27 track doing member lapping after the Academy

Non-licensed drivers or drivers that do not fit any of the above rules may forward a request to Bill Drossos and Kees Nierop and upon their review may or may not be allowed to enter.

All drivers MUST sign up with ORRA 27 and pay the $50.00 membership fee for a 2025 ORRA 27 license

Teams

Each team is a minimum of 4 people. Note we need 2 designated people to “service” the car while car is in pit. 1 fueling, 1 managing fire extinguisher

2 drivers minimum. Qualifying driver must have race experience and will be the starting driver

1 person (may be a team driver) designated as the main person to manage the fire extinguisher

1 person to do the fuelling. (must wear fire proof clothing, safety goggles and a “balaclava”)

Minimum driver stint is 15 minutes

Each team will also designate one person as the team’s crew chief and designated communications person.

Each team “may” have to provide one person to be able to time another team’s pit stops. We potentially will need volunteers to “police'' the pit stop times

This volunteer will only look after 2 cars. Bring a chair and a warm coat. We have the two stop watches available for you in the Area 27 office.

REMEMBER: NO CONTACT RACING!!!!

Vehicles and Brackets

Any race prepared production based type of vehicle is eligible to race. The only rules are safety type rules. (Roll bar, belts, safety net etc.).

See: AREA 27 CLUB RACING RULES & REGULATIONS, Safety Equipment Requirements.

Street tires/slicks doesn’t matter, weight doesn’t matter, hp doesn’t matter

All cars will have a provided bracket marking sticker clearly shown on the passenger side of the car.

Driver has to collect a “pit stop” sticker indicating he/she made a legal/mandatory pit stop. At end of race each bracket car has to have the correct number of stickers on the windshield

Each bracket will have a set # of mandatory pit stops at a pre-set duration time also.

All cars have the ability to do approx. the same number of laps in any given time. Faster cars will just spend more time in the pits.

Lap time between 2.05 and 2.40

Mandatory # Pit stops depending on lap time

Fast cars may have to stop 7 or more times, the slowest bracket may only make 2 or 3 pit stops.

There will be about 5 different brackets

Mandatory length of pit stop depending on lap time

Most brackets will be 3 or 3 ½ minutes. No need to “fill the fuel” every time. It’s about safety and taking your time to service the car properly

If you do an improper pit stop (leave to early or …) you will be black flagged and required to make another stop. This stop may not be a timed stop. (stop and go)

Plenty of opportunity to change drivers 2 or 3 times

Please note that there are several “unknown” situations.

Yellow flag – you could gain or lose time

Hotshoe driver – If faster than qualifying time, you lose a whole lap!

Sensible driver – you could gain or lose time. Steady wins the race sometimes

 Etc, etc, etc.

ALL UNKNOWNS MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR ANYBODY TO TAKE A WIN. THIS IS FUN RACING.

Prize money TBA
